As part of my 2018 Design Studio course, I designed a low-rise mixed-use building in Mount Roskill. This project was the culmination of the first semester, where I had analysed the site, and completed a masterplan as part of a group of five students.
This final design project was done individually, and I designed a 4 storey mixed-use building with 32 apartments, offices, and retail. A driver for my design was to ensure all 32 apartments had dual aspect to improve natural light and ventilation for the apartments.
In my design, the ground floor duplex apartments have double height light tunnels running completely through the building to bring light throughout the apartment. On the second floor, there is an elevated resident terrace, with the third floor overhanging. And the third floor apartments feature private enclosed terraces.
